Bandaranaike International Airport, also known as Colombo International Airport and locally as Katunayake International Airport, is the main airport to which most international airlines fly. The IATA code that appears on your flight ticket to this airport is CMB. The airport is situated 22 km north of Colombo. The Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport, also known as the Hambantota International Airport, is situated in the south of the island. The IATA code for flights to this airport is HRI.

 

Sri Lankan Airlines, part of the Oneworld Alliance, serves over 60 destinations in 30 countries. Over 20 other international airlines operate flights to Sri Lanka. A low-cost airline Mihin Lanka was launched in 2007 to fly to destinations in Asia.

 

Within Sri Lanka, domestic airlines operate daily flights between cities like Colombo, Batticaloa, Dickwella, Kandy, Koggala, Sigiriya and Trincomalee. Another good option to travel by air within the country is to fly helicopters that link many destinations within the island.
