Mandaitivu Island is fabulous for its birds!
Mandaitivu is a small island measuring 800 meters by 3.2 kilometres off the coast of Jaffna peninsula to which it is linked by a causeway.
This is a wonderful place to visit for birdwatching as the marshy lagoons, coconut groves and scrubs are flocked by a great many variety of winged creatures. For bird enthusiasts, this place can be a real paradise with many species to be spotted including Flamingo, Black Drongo, Rose-ringed Parakeet, Greater Coucal, Spot-billed duck, Painted Stork, Black-tailed Godwit, Marsh Sandpiper, Whrimbel, Eurasian Curlew, Eurasian Hoopoe, Brahminy Kite, Golden-backed Woodpecker, etc.
The guesthouse managed by the Mandativu navy camp can offer accommodation to serious birders.
