Tips to help you buy art and paintings from galleries during your travel in Sri Lanka

Painting as an art form has existed in Sri Lanka since the 3rd or 2nd century BC. An insight to Sri Lankan painting can be found here.

Paintings can be bought as souvenirs from a variety of places. Postcard sized art is sold at most shops catering to tourists. If you wish to encourage local talent, you can browse the government owned galleries in Colombo, Galle and Kandy. These galleries showcase painting and other handicrafts as well. Art lovers can also visit high-end private galleries in major cities that have helped showcase plenty of local upcoming artists.
