Important advice on domestic flights in Sri Lanka
The end of the civil war has opened up the perspectives of inland flights. It is now possible to reduce travel time between destinations and enjoy spectacular views of the country by opting to fly within Sri Lanka. Most of the time the aircraft are sea planes. Helicopters trips are also available.
Following are the main flight operators:
Started in 2013, Cinnamon Air operates regularly from Colombo to Batticaloa, Dikwella, Kandy (Polgolla Reservoir), Koggala, Trincomalee, Sigiriya, Weerawila and Mattala. Cinnamon Air operates in code share with Sri Lankan Airways.
The Sri Lanka Air Force operates a commercial civil service with a fleet of helicopters and non-military aircraft. The main destinations are Colombo Ratmalana, Jaffna Palaly, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ampara, Matale, etc.
Sri Lankan Air Taxi Service
Operated by Sri Lankan Airways, Srilankan Air Taxi is a regular inland airline service from their dedicated domestic terminal at the Bandaranaike International Airport to Batticaloa, Colombo City (Waters Edge, Kotte), Dickwella, Kandy, Koggala, Sigiriya and Trincomalee.
Charter and scenic flights to all Sri Lankan destinations are provided upon request.
Simplify is another internal airline company. It is the only airline in Sri Lanka that operates helicopters, planes and sea planes. They provide a variety of day excursions from Colombo.
With a fleet of three helicopters and two aircraft, Cosmos aviation offers chartered flights to any destination in Sri Lanka. They also provide tour packages on request.
Air Senok provides helicopter services on demand to corporate clients and tourists. The choppers are useful for scenic flights, joy rides, airport to resort transfer, etc.
